In my view, raising the next generation has four essentials. The first is patience. The second is being open to communication — or, more precisely, opening up space for open communication. The third is timing.
Starting early. The fourth is genuinely giving the young person the opportunity to make their own discovery within a structured process. This work is not like an education program; it is more of a way of life. You also need to see its core goal clearly. The goal is to raise responsible shareholders who protect the asset.
The patience part is very critical. Because this is a long journey. For instance, when a child is born, you know that one day they will marry. But you do not plan their wedding from that day, the moment they are born. Nor do you set out to decide whom they will marry.
Instead, over time you build, step by step, a character and a capacity for judgment that can make the right decision. Raising the next generation in family businesses is exactly like this. You cannot manage the outcome one hundred percent, but you can build the person who leads to that outcome with patience, with a system, and as someone to be taken as an example.
