Now, succession in family businesses is a complex problem. You cannot solve a complex problem with simple methods. Because there are too many variables behind it here. When you go in with a generic solution, due to the many differences between two families in the same sector and of the same size, this matter will produce different results.

For this reason, it changes in this process depending on many things. The models you design change according to the size of the family, which sector it is in, how many children there are in which generation, what age range they are in and how they should be prepared, the partnership structure within the families or the partnership structure of the company, the importance the partners attach to this matter, the sector they are in, the goals of the business, the goals of the family, the number of young people, and the expectations of both sides. This is why I say it is a complex system. Actually, in my basic approach at An academy whose idea was seeded in 2018, whose pilot development began in 2022, and which launched in 2025. It develops the next generation in family businesses not merely as operational managers but as responsible leaders who grasp the whole of the corporate entity. See in glossary →, that is, with this perspective, the people who form the infrastructure of this academy for families need to have experience in a multidisciplinary structure.

So we begin our work with a process in which we understand these variables. And according to these differences and expectations, we first determine the main goal of that family or that generation within that program. That is, do we want to carry out the succession, do we want to develop the young people, do we want to bring any one of them to the fore,

do we want to standardize all of them at a certain level of knowledge? A process takes place at the stage of deciding on these things. Then, after determining where we want to reach, we decide with what kind of mechanism we will do it. Now, I am the one explaining this, but at SPALDA® Academy, specialized in different sectors and job functions,

as of the end of 2025, around 110 different professionals, each with a minimum of 15 years of experience, are working. This means: there are many different professionals who enter and exit the main system you have designed according to the family's need and the sector the young person needs at that moment.

In any case, it is not possible to solve such a complex problem with simple methods and a single person. Your approach to such a problem lies in being modular, able to be customized according to the family's need, and able to bring many people into that main system with a logic that can show a certain measurability and progress. The size of this team of ours expands depending on the families we work with in their areas of expertise and the business situation we are in with the people we work alongside. If you ask me, this number will continue to grow, and the scope of the work we do is not only within the borders of Türkiye, that should be said too.
